BIO
My Story
Shawnee Hardware, Ph.D is an Anti-racist Researcher and Student Engagement Specialist. She is also a Research Associate with the Toronto District School Board and a Visiting Scholar at Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Faculty of Education. She has taught at all levels of the education system and draws on years of work and community leadership experiences from Jamaica, Japan, Newfoundland and Labrador, Peru and Toronto. Shawnee holds a PhD in Language, Culture and Teaching from York University, Toronto and an M.Ed. in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her interests include student engagement, youth civic engagement, and curriculum development from an anti-racist and culturally responsive lens. Moreover, Shawnee is a community leader who served as a member of the board of directors at Caribbean African Canadian (CAFCAN) Social Services. She also acted as the Education and Culture Chair at the Jamaican Canadian Association where she directed and designed learning activities for students in grades 1-12.

I am currently a co-host on Edutalk876. EduTalk876 seeks to explore the Jamaican education system and the lived realities of stakeholders, while offering sound advice for better policy development.
